ASI is pleased to partner with the Global Blood Fund (GBF) to help blood collection organizations in some of the world’s poorest countries.
GBF, a U.S.-based 501(c) (3) international development charity, works to promote and support voluntary blood donations in Africa, South America and other parts of the world where shortages of donated blood result in the death of tens of thousands, predominantly children and mothers in childbirth. The blood that is available there is often not safe. HIV, malaria and other infections transmitted through blood transfusions devastate lives and families on a huge scale.
GBF assists local blood services to educate citizens and provide resources that help recruit and retain a pool of regular, unpaid donors. GBF also works with developed blood services in the U.S. and Europe to facilitate the donation of surplus-to-requirement equipment to poorer countries. ASI’s support to GBF has included sourcing and preparing used ASI products for donation to Africa and sponsorship of a GBF initiative with the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion.
